Review

"The Carlvinsons" was released as an OVA in 1988, and its unique worldview and the charm of its characters are still loved by many fans today. This work is the story of a traveling troupe of performers set in space, and it particularly depicts the growth of Corona-chan as she turns five and her family's love.

First, let's talk about the story. The setting, 1972, brings the Showa era into space, giving it a sense of nostalgia and newness at the same time. The plot, in which a traveling troupe of entertainers collides with a strange spaceship and ends up rescuing a baby named Corona, is a good opportunity to depict a family bond that begins by chance. The process of Corona growing up as a member of the family gives viewers a warm feeling and makes them realize the importance of family.

The characters are also not to be missed. The main character, Corona-chan, is a bright, energetic and cute character, and her growth is at the center of the story. Mayumi So, who plays Corona, also gives a fantastic voice performance, and her voice brings out Corona's charm even more. The members of the traveling troupe of entertainers are also unique, and they play the role of a family that watches over Corona with kindness. In particular, the performances of Tesshō Genda, who plays the father, and Yoshiko Fujita, who plays the mother, make you feel the warmth of a family.

Visually, the film also deserves high praise. Character designer and animation director Sekino Masahiro's work meticulously depicts the characters' expressions and movements, bringing out the film's maximum visual appeal. Art director Nakamura Mitsuki's background art also expresses the vastness and beauty of space, making a strong visual impact. In particular, the spaceship designs and planetary landscapes have the power to draw the viewer in.

Music is also an important element in enhancing the appeal of this work. The background music and theme song play a role in enhancing the atmosphere of the story and eliciting emotions from the viewer. In particular, the music in the scenes depicting Corona's growth and the family ties is very moving.

The team of directors Shimada Mitsuru and Yabuki Kimiro is also superb. Shimada Mitsuru's script skillfully constructs a story depicting family ties and growth, and has the power to draw the viewer into the story. Meanwhile, Yabuki Kimiro's skill as a director has succeeded in bringing out the beauty of the images and the charm of the characters to the fullest. Their collaboration is what supports the success of this work.

"The Carlvinsons" is a heartwarming story about family love and growth, and is a visually and musically excellent work. Released as an OVA, it only has one episode, but in that short time it succeeds in conveying deep emotion. I would especially recommend this work to those who want to feel the importance of family and the joy of growth.
