■ "Old Hill"
In June 1582, at the end of the Sengoku period, Oda Nobunaga, on the verge of unifying the country, ordered his vassal, Akechi Mitsuhide, to support Hashiba Hideyoshi, who was attacking Takamatsu Castle in Bitchu. After calming down his subordinates who were complaining about Nobunaga, Mitsuhide headed straight for Bitchu. Just as he was approaching Oinosaka, he suddenly remembered the grave of Shuten-doji's head and left the ranks alone. Minamoto no Yorimitsu, who took Shuten-doji's head, was also the ancestor of many samurai families, including the Akechi clan. However, waiting for Mitsuhide at the grave was his wife, Hiroko, who was supposed to have died six years ago. In the darkness after they had left, Shuten-doji laughed. "With this, one more descendant of the Genji has been lost," he said.

■ "See the real picture"
After Nobunaga died at Honnoji Temple, Tokugawa Ieyasu planned to return to Mikawa via Iga and prepare for a campaign. On the way, an Iga ninja sneaked into an inn. He planned to kill Ieyasu, who was an ally of Oda Nobunaga, who had persecuted the Iga ninja, and become a jonin. However, the handsome guest kept interrupting Ieyasu, who was chatting with guests in the tea room, every time he tried to catch an opportunity. In his pride as a ninja, he attacked Ieyasu as he was bathing in the open-air bath. However, it was a trap set by Ieyasu and his guest.

■ Review

"Yamiyo no jidai-geki: Oinosaka: Seeing the True Identity" is an anime work released as an OVA in 1995, and is characterized by its story development that skillfully incorporates the historical background of the Warring States period. This work consists of two episodes, "Oinosaka" and "Seeing the True Identity." Each episode depicts the human drama of the Warring States period from a different perspective, providing viewers with deep emotion and excitement.

"Oinosaka" tells the story of Akechi Mitsuhide, who is on his way to Bitchu Takamatsu Castle under the orders of Oda Nobunaga, reuniting with his wife Hiroko, who was supposed to be dead, at the grave of Shuten-doji's head. This episode depicts Mitsuhide's inner conflict and dissatisfaction with Nobunaga, delving deeply into the humanity of this historical figure. The inclusion of the eerie element of Shuten-doji's grave adds a fantasy element to the historical drama, drawing the viewer's interest. The scene of Mitsuhide's reunion with his wife Hiroko is also a moving one that touches the hearts of viewers.

"Seeing His True Identity" tells the story of an attempt by a genin Iga ninja to assassinate Tokugawa Ieyasu at an inn on his way back to Mikawa through Iga. The episode depicts a tense confrontation between the ninja's pride and Ieyasu's cleverness. In particular, the scene in which the genin is defeated by a trap set by Ieyasu and his guests leaves viewers astonished and moved. Ieyasu's character is also portrayed in depth, highlighting his wisdom and courage.

The appeal of this work lies in the story development based on historical background and the portrayal of deep humanity of the characters. In particular, by focusing on historical figures Akechi Mitsuhide and Tokugawa Ieyasu, viewers can gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Sengoku period. In addition, the inclusion of fantasy elements such as Shuten-doji and Iga ninjas adds a new appeal to the historical drama.

The main staff also contributed greatly to the success of this work. Imanishi Takashi, who wrote and directed "Oinosaka," skillfully portrayed Mitsuhide's inner conflict and captured the hearts of viewers. Tomino Yoshiyuki, who wrote and directed "Seeing the True Identity," created a tense story by pitting Ieyasu's intelligence against the pride of a ninja. Furthermore, Kudo Takashi's music plays an important role in enhancing the atmosphere of the work.

"Yamiyo no jidai-gi (period drama) Oinosaka: See the True Identity" is a work with a unique worldview that combines historical drama and fantasy elements, providing viewers with deep emotion and excitement.
