Evaluation

"The Kindaichi Case Files SP" was a success as a special episode that maximized the appeal of the original work while providing new surprises and excitement to the audience. Below, we will take a closer look at the appeal and evaluation of this special episode.

Story and development

This special edition is made up of two episodes. Episode 1, "Opera House: The Final Murder," depicts a series of murders that take place at the Opera House, which Kindaichi Hajime visits with his friends. The mansion's history and secrets become intertwined, and Hajime's powers of deduction are put to the test, allowing viewers to fully enjoy the essence of the original work. Episode 2, "The Vampire Legend Murder Case," tells the story of solving a series of murders that take place in a village where a vampire legend remains. As legend and reality intersect, this episode highlights Hajime's insight.

Both episodes faithfully reproduce the atmosphere of the original work, while adding visual expressions and direction unique to television anime. In particular, the climax scene, in which the truth of the incident is revealed, is directed in a way that will grab the viewers' hearts, and even fans of the original work will find something new to discover.

character

The main characters, including Kindaichi Hajime, have been animated with the same charm as in the original work. The voice of Hajime, played by Matsuno Taiki, reflects the character setting in the original work well, giving viewers a sense of familiarity and trust. In addition, the acting of the cast, including Nakagawa Akiko as Nanase Miyuki, Kosugi Jurota as Kenmochi Isamu, and Morikawa Toshiyuki as Akechi Kengo, is also superb, further highlighting the individuality of the characters.

In particular, the relationship between Hajime and Miyuki maintains the delicate balance of the original work while also showing new developments that are unique to this special edition. Their relationship, which is more than friends but less than lovers, resonates with viewers and adds depth to the story. The contrast between Isamu Kenmochi and Kengo Akechi is also excellent and plays an important role in highlighting Hajime's deductive ability.

Production and direction

Director Daisuke Nishio has a firm understanding of the worldview of the original work, while maximizing the expressive power that only anime can offer. In particular, the settings such as the opera house and the village with the vampire legend are visually beautiful and have the power to draw the viewer into the world of the story. In addition, the background music by Kaoru Wada is also an important element in increasing the tension and excitement of the story.

The teamwork between Studio Gazelle and MAGICBUS, who are in charge of animation production, Toei, and the production companies YTV, Dentsu, and Toei Animation is superb, and they have succeeded in bringing out the best in the original work. The technical skills of the staff, including color designer Kunio Tsujita and sound effects designer Takahisa Ishino, are also highly acclaimed.

Viewers' reactions

This special edition has been highly praised by fans of the original work. It has been especially praised for faithfully recreating the atmosphere of the original work while adding new developments and direction. In addition, scenes depicting Hajime's deductive skills and the relationships between the characters have received many moving comments from viewers.

On the other hand, some people say that it was difficult to pack all the charm of the original into the short broadcast period of two episodes. However, looking at the whole thing, it was a very satisfying special episode, and it was very well received by viewers.
