Overview

"Happy Kappi" is a five-minute short anime series that aired on TV Tokyo in 2011. It is based on a manga by Keiko Aoyagi and was animated by Shogakukan Music and Digital Entertainment. It consists of 25 episodes and aired every Wednesday morning from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. as part of the "Norinori♪Nori Star" program. The anime depicts humorous and touching stories woven by characters popular with children.

■ Story

The main character, Kinoshita Suguri, is a lively girl in the third grade of elementary school. She has good motor skills and is just as active as boys, but she also has a girlish side, such as making accessories and loving animals. One day, when Suguri went out to buy materials for accessories, she picked up a mysterious stone on the side of the road. She used the stone to make a bracelet and was happy when she found an animal lying on the street. It was Kappi, a prince who had wandered into a different world called Capimesia. Kappi was hungry, so Suguri gave him some homemade donuts made by his mother. Kappi regained his energy after eating the donuts and got so excited that he almost fell off a bridge. Suguri jumped out to save Kappi, but they both fell off the bridge. When Suguri hugged Kappi as they were falling, Kappi was enveloped in a dazzling light, and Kappi, who had wandered into the human world, began his adventure with Suguri, despite getting into trouble.

■ Characters

The charm of this anime lies in its unique characters. The main character, Kinoshita Suguri, is an only child and third grade elementary school student with a boyish personality and a girlish side, as she likes making accessories. Her dream for the future is to become a designer. Kappi is the prince of the country of Capimesia, and is usually a silly character who is absent-minded and causes trouble for those around him, but when he is hugged while wearing Suguri's scrunchie bracelet, he transforms into Prince Kappi and becomes able to use magic. Kappi's love of donuts is also one of his charms. Prince Kappi is Kappi's transformed form, and he can use magic, but when he gets hungry, he reverts to his original form. Dokuroppi is a capybara who came to the human world to challenge Kappi to a fight. He actually likes Kappi, but their personalities don't match and they never seem to settle things. Whippi is a capybara who dreams of becoming Kappi's wife, and sees Suguri as a rival in love. He is good at transformation magic. Kobara is Kappi's younger sister, and although she is still young, she has great magical powers and is always up to mischief.
