Full Metal Panic! Director's Cut Part 3: Into the Blue is the final chapter of the director's cut of the anime series based on the light novel by Shoji Gato and Douji Shiki. The story begins with a scene in which a girl fleeing from an enemy military helicopter is rescued. The girl is saved by Sagara Sousuke, a soldier of the anti-terrorist organization "Mithril" who pilots the arm slave "M9 (Gernsback)". The rescued girl is a "Whispered" with special abilities and possesses black technology. Sousuke is then ordered to guard a Japanese high school girl, Chidori Kaname, as part of a new mission. She is also a "Whispered", and Sousuke is confronted by his former enemy Gaurun. Gaurun uses his arm slave to corner Sousuke and Kaname.

■Explanation

"Full Metal Panic!" was first broadcast as a TV series in 2002. In spring 2018, a director's cut version of the first season was produced in preparation for the broadcast of the new TV series "Full Metal Panic! IV." This director's cut version was produced in three parts, with director Koichi Chiaki in charge of everything from offline editing to sound production, and 24 episodes in total. New cuts were added, the 4:3 screen was edited to 16:9, and some parts were cut at the top and bottom and trimmed to fit theater screens. In addition, the new technology "FORS" was used to up-convert again, and the DA88 analog audio material was completely digitized to convert 2ch stereo to pseudo 5.1ch.
