Japanese manga piracy hits worst point in history, likely caused by pandemic and people staying at home

The recent epidemic situation in Japan is severe, and staying at home has become the only choice for more Japanese. The latest comments published by Japanese media on May 31 show that this may also have contributed to the recent worst state of Japanese comic piracy in history.

According to statistics from the Japanese Publishing Industry Piracy Countermeasures Committee ABJ, the current situation of Japanese manga piracy has worsened unprecedentedly, far exceeding the heyday of the pirated manga leader "Mangamura". Although "Mangamura" no longer exists, more "Mangamura" have emerged.

According to ABJ statistics, there are about 750 known comics piracy websites. The top 10 websites alone have more than 240 million active visits per month. The traffic of the top three websites increased 14 times from January last year to April this year.

ABJ member and Shueisha's anti-piracy measures director Atsushi Ito also said that there is no magic bullet to combat pirated comics, and the only way is to keep fighting. Once you give up, you will fail completely.
