Investigated for pirated videos! Renren Video founder apologizes after three and a half years

Recently, Liang Liang, the founder of Renren Films, posted an apology video on Douyin, apologizing to fans and handling the follow-up. Liang Liang said in the video that Renren Films was built by himself and destroyed by himself. After three and a half years of education and reflection, he has deeply realized his problems and mistakes, and apologized to everyone for the negative impact he has brought.

He also shared the spare computer room he used to use in the video and cleared out the resources he had collected over the past decade. He said: " I was filled with emotion when I saw these resources, but unfortunately I didn't have the copyright, so I cleared out the data in the end. "

Finally, Liang Liang also expressed his desire to dispose of the hardware and sell it as second-hand to people in need. The hardware includes two i9 CPU hosts, six Dell R720 host servers, 20 8TB SAS hard drives, 56 6TB SAS hard drives, Dell MD1100 array cabinet, dedicated air conditioner for computer room, 10G optical port switch, enterprise-level router, etc.

Some netizens said: " No need to apologize, we owe you a membership ." "Although, your translations of Friends, Prison Break, Lost, Breaking Bad, Heroes, CSI series... accompanied me through my high school, college and graduate school years." "Renren Films was my English enlightenment! I only scored 20 or 30 points in English back then, but because I came into contact with American TV series by chance, I couldn't stop and scored 130 in English in the college entrance examination."

According to media reports, in February 2021, the Shanghai police issued a notice that after three months of investigation, the Shanghai police cracked a major cross-provincial infringement of film and television copyright case by the "Renren Film and Television Subtitle Group", with the amount involved exceeding 16 million yuan.

The report said that 14 suspects, led by Liang, had been arrested, three companies involved in the case had been investigated, and 20 mobile phones and 12 computer hosts and servers used in the crime had been seized. In November of the same year, the court sentenced the defendant Liang to three years and six months in prison for copyright infringement and fined him RMB 1.5 million.
