HBO to launch Game of Thrones animation in early development

According to the latest report from foreign media Variety, they confirmed through sources that a "Game of Thrones" animation work launched by HBO Max is currently in the early stages of development.

There is currently no more detailed information about this animated series, and no screenwriters or other staff have joined. HBO Max declined to comment on the news.

Variety exclusively reported last week that HBO is developing a series based on the prequel novel "Tales of Dunk and Egg" to "Game of Thrones." The series tells the story of Aegon V Targaryen, who served as a squire to a tall hedge knight named Duncan 90 years before "Game of Thrones."

HBO is currently preparing the prequel to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, which is adapted from George R. R. Martin's book Fire and Blood and is expected to premiere in 2022. It focuses on the story of the "Dragon House" Targaryen family, which will involve their famous bloody civil war "Dance with the Dragons", which took place about 300 years before the story of Game of Thrones.

Expanding the Game of Thrones universe has been a top priority for WarnerMedia since the series concluded in 2019, with multiple projects based in Martin's Westeros reportedly in the works.
