Netflix and Legendary to release animated series of Skull Island and Tomb Raider

The streaming giant is teaming up with TV studio Legendary TV to create new animated series based on the Skull Island and Tomb Raider franchises.

"Skull Island" will be a new chapter in the legendary monster universe. The new work will be similar to "Kong: Skull Island" directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts in 2017. The animation will tell the adventure of the protagonist who encountered a shipwreck and escaped from the mysterious and dangerous island. Of course, there will definitely be the famous monster King Kong on the island.

In 2014, Legendary Pictures released "Godzilla" and "King Kong: Skull Island", and in 2019, it released "Godzilla: King of the Monsters". In the next chapter of the Monster Universe, "Godzilla vs. Kong" will usher in the climax.

Brian Duffield will write and produce the new animation with Jacob Robinson. Skull Island is animated by Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind Castlevania and Blood of Zeus.

The Tomb Raider animated series will continue SE's popular game series. The animation will take place after the game's reboot trilogy and tell the story of female adventurer Lara Croft exploring new environments 25 years after her first game.

Tomb Raider has sparked a global chain reaction of movies, spin-offs and comic books. This new animation created by Netflix marks the first time Lara Croft appears in an animated series. The latest game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, has also been well received.

In 2001, Angelina Jolie played the heroine of the same name in the movie "Tomb Raider: Lara Croft", and then played the role again in the sequel "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" in 2003. In 2018, Alicia Vikander played Lara Croft in the new version of "Tomb Raider" and will play the role again in the sequel to "Tomb Raider".
