"The New Mutants" should be a superhero horror movie that learned a lot from classic horror movies

The Marvel superhero movie "The New Mutants" will be released in North America on August 28. Recently, director Josh Boone stated at the online media reception of the movie that "The New Mutants" is a superhero movie, but more importantly, it is a horror movie.

"I was going to give you a Breakfast Club feel, but Nightmare on Elm Street 3 really energized me," New Mutants director Josh Boone explained in an interview with GameSpot.

Blu Hunter, who plays Moonstar, was quick to echo the same sentiment. "I love horror movies - it's my favourite genre, and A Nightmare on Elm Street was definitely a source of inspiration for that." She then elaborated that while the films may not be directly related to the film itself, she spent a considerable amount of time watching Sam Raimi's films for inspiration for Moonstar. "I spent a lot of time watching horror movies over and over again to see how actors act scared - I watched Descent into Hell a lot, and we all watched Evil Dead together. As an actor, it was inspiring to watch those really crazy female performances."

But not all actors in The New Mutants are fans of classic horror movies. Henry Zager, who plays Sunspot, admitted that he had never watched A Nightmare on Elm Street. He said, "I grew up watching movies like Scream and The Goonies, and I think The New Mutants also has elements of those movies. The director loves those classic horror movies and has learned a lot from them - we even have a clip that pays homage to Hitchcock's Psycho. He likes to add little hints to the movie."
