Netflix's vice president of original films, Tendo Nagenda, has shared some new insights into the types of projects the company wants to create in the future. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nagenda said his "dream projects" are tentative "adventure films" similar to "Star Wars" and "Harry Potter." “We’re looking at those broad-audience PG-rated adventures as something we want to get into, similar to the first Star Wars, Harry Potter 1 and 2 movies. There’s a lot of family reality, fantasy and spectacle that we think is big and rewarding. A Jumanji-style story. That’s the next frontier.” Nagenda said Netflix's overall mission with original films is to pursue "new ideas" and projects that traditional movie studios would pass up. “George Lucas created Star Wars, and they weren’t based on books. If you have that level of imagination, it’s like the Wachowskis with The Matrix, and we feel like we’re a place where these innovative ideas and filmmakers can take risks.” As for which film directors Netflix wants to work with, Nagenda gave some examples, including Oscar-winning director Joel Peele (Get Out) and Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Inception). Nagenda also said that he is also a fan of Quentin. It is worth mentioning that Nolan said in an interview with IndieWire in 2017 that he would never cooperate with Netflix because of its opposition to traditional movie theaters. |
