Why were Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 filmed back-to-back? To complete the emotional trajectory

Tom Cruise's classic film series "Mission: Impossible" is currently producing the seventh and eighth films at the same time, both directed by Christopher Macaulay (the director of "Mission: Impossible 5 and 6"). Due to the new coronavirus epidemic, the filming of "Mission: Impossible 7" has been temporarily shelved, and Macaulay also took time to accept a podcast interview and talked about why he chose to shoot two "Mission: Impossible" films back to back.

Macaulay said: "When we were shooting Mission: Impossible 6: Fallout, I told Tom Cruise, 'I really want to make this movie more like Ethan Hunt's emotional journey.' So I want to apply what we learned from Mission: Impossible 6 to each character. I want everyone to have their own emotional trajectory, and I hope that Mission: Impossible 7 feels more comprehensive.'"

Later, during the filming of Mission: Impossible 7, he and Cruise realized that the planned movie was "too long" and had to delete nearly 40 minutes of content to achieve balance, and these 40 minutes will become part of Mission: Impossible 8. "Now I have these two shots, which means that we already have 40 minutes of Mission: Impossible 8."

Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 are set to be released on November 19, 2021 and November 4, 2022, respectively.
