GAINAX, the animation production company of Neon Genesis Evangelion, went bankrupt and Khara took over and continued to operate it

Today (June 7), GAINAX, the animation production company of Neon Genesis Evangelion, announced bankruptcy. In an open letter, the company's representative director Yasuhiro Kamimura said that the reason for GAINAX's bankruptcy was poor management. Some former managers owed a lot of debts and put the company in trouble. Although GAINAX reorganized the team with the support of creditor Khara, the debts left by the former managers can no longer be repaid. In desperation, the current GAINAX team can only choose bankruptcy.

The open letter also stated that the GAINAX trademark has been transferred to Khara for management, and any unauthorized use of the relevant trademark will constitute infringement.

Hideaki Anno's current company Khara issued a supplementary statement, saying that it is working with various production committees to confirm and organize the rights of relevant works and intellectual property rights so that creators and original authors can continue to produce and operate works in some way.

GAINAX is a Japanese animation production company established on December 24, 1984. Its representative works include "Royal Space Forces", "Peak Jump", "Neon Genesis Evangelion", "Gurren Lagann" and so on.

GAINAX is famous for subverting traditional animation types and experimental animation. In addition, due to the interests of the main members, a lot of parodies or tributes are added, which is why it is called the "otaku company". In addition, GAINAX also allows some animators to try multiple positions. It is common for animators to be involved in scripts, storyboards, and animation supervision at the same time. Under tradition, each member focuses on the ability of hand-drawn animation.
