Golden Broom Awards to be broadcast live online: "Shanghai Fortress" nominated for Worst Film of the Year

The Golden Broom Award is the first award in the history of Chinese-language films, sponsored by Youth Film Handbook, to be given to the worst film of the year. It is an award established to promote Chinese films, with the participation of netizens and independent film critics, who start from the film text, use film criticism to influence film creation from a professional standpoint and independent identity.

Today (April 21), director, screenwriter, and editor-in-chief of Youth Film Handbook Cheng Qingsong announced that the 11th China Film Golden Broom Awards & Youth Film Handbook 2019 Chinese Top Ten Awards Ceremony will be broadcast online in mid-May, and the best and worst films of 2019 will be announced at the same time.

The list of nominees for the 11th China Film Golden Broom Awards has been announced. Among them, the films nominated for the Most Disappointing Film include "Shanghai Fortress", "Zhu Xian I", "The Ex", "More Than Blue", "Fall in Love at First Kiss", "Detective Pu Songling", "Somewhere in Winter", "The Whistleblower", "The Evolution of the Best Boyfriend", and "The Ice Storm".

Among them, "Shanghai Fortress" is a science fiction film released in August 2019, directed by Teng Huatao and starring Lu Han and Shu Qi.

The film scored only 3.4 points on Douban one day after its release, with more than 58% of people giving it a one-star rating. At the time, the official Weibo account of Shanghai Fortress posted four messages in a row, "Is this a bad movie???" to respond to the criticism, but the official Weibo account later deleted the post and apologized.

In addition, "Shanghai Fortress" was nominated for the Most Disappointing Director and the Most Disappointing Screenwriter at the 11th China Film Golden Broom Awards.

It is worth noting that among the nominations for the most disappointing actors, big names such as Lei Jiayin, Jackie Chan, Wallace Huo, Shu Qi, Lin Yun, Tang Wei, and Guli Nazha are all on the list.
