Ghost in the Shell will launch a new animated series in 2026

Recently, the official announced that the classic science fiction work "Ghost in the Shell" will launch a new TV animation, which is currently scheduled to start broadcasting in 2026. The animation production is entrusted to Science SARU.

Trailer:

Ghost in the Shell is a sci-fi manga created by Shirow Masamune in 1989. The story is set in a fictional Japan, describing a time when people's body organs can be replaced by electronic prostheses, and their brains also have electronic brains connected to the Internet. However, as humans become prostheses, various electronic crimes have emerged with the evolution of the times, so the government established the "Public Security Section 9" to eliminate threats and crimes. The protagonist of this work, Kusanagi Motoko, is active as the captain of Public Security Section 9, and she and her team members face various crimes to maintain peace.

In addition to the original work, Ghost in the Shell has been adapted into movie and TV animations many times in the past. Among them, the movie version brought by Mamoru Oshii and the TV animation series directed by Kenji Kamiyama are classics. In recent years, in addition to Ghost in the Shell ARISE and Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, there are also live-action movies starring Scarlett Johansson.

With the recent 35th anniversary concert "DEEP DIVE in sync with GHOST IN THE SHELL" held in Japan, the official also revealed the news of the new animation. This animation was handed over to Science SARU, which was recently acquired by Toho and has produced animations such as "Ping Pong" and "Don't Do It to the Image Research!" in the past. It is known for its strong style. In the special video and concept visuals, you can see many scenes composed of the original comics.
