The Walking Dead author seems to have revealed the origin of the zombie virus

The Walking Dead comic book series has been serialized since October 2003. As a story set in a zombie apocalypse, it does not specifically explain how the zombie virus broke out. Robert Kirkman, the author of the comic book series, has always said that the comic book will not explain the origin of the zombie virus because this information has nothing to do with the story itself. Despite this, Kirkman still said that he actually has the answer to this question in his mind, and perhaps he will accidentally reveal it in an interview at some point in the future. Now, he may have revealed his answer to how the zombie virus broke out. Of course, it may also be that he is joking.

On Twitter, a fan asked Kirkman what caused the zombie virus outbreak in The Walking Dead. He gave a simple and direct answer: "Space spores." But interestingly, when Kirkman first provided the concept introduction of The Walking Dead to Image Comics, he said that the zombie virus was created by aliens, who used the zombie virus to weaken the infrastructure of the earth and then invaded in large numbers. But Kirkman did not intend to go into detail about the alien invasion because it was just a lie to get the project started. So the "space spore" explanation given this time may just be a new version of the old joke.

Although Kirkman himself does not care about the source of the zombie virus in The Walking Dead, this does not stop readers and fans from being curious and speculating. Fans who must seek an explanation can only accept the answer of "space spores" for the time being, but obviously readers cannot expect the author to expand and describe it in detail.
