The "Light and Shadow China" Film Honor Ceremony, hosted by the Chinese Film Critics Society and others, was held in Beijing on the 11th. The "2019 Film Market Report" released at the meeting showed that people born after 1990 have become the main force of moviegoers in my country, contributing more than half of the annual box office; the moviegoer market continues to sink, and third- and fourth-tier cities have become new growth points in the film market.

According to the report, China's total box office in 2019 was 64.266 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%. Among them, domestic films continued to make efforts, with a box office of 41.175 billion yuan, accounting for 64.07% of the market.

Statistics from the report show that those born after 1990 have become the main group of moviegoers, contributing 55% of the annual box office revenue; the size of the moviegoer audience born after 2000 is also growing rapidly, contributing 7% of the annual box office.

The report also pointed out that the "head effect" of the film market continued to strengthen in 2019, with the combined box office revenue of the top 15 films in terms of ticket sales accounting for more than half of the total box office revenue of all films; box office revenue in third- and fourth-tier cities grew rapidly, reaching 22.2 billion yuan.

It is reported that live streaming with ticket sales and word-of-mouth marketing on social platforms have high conversion rates and are also a highlight of my country's film market in 2019. Many excellent domestic films such as "The Wandering Earth" and "Nezha: The Devil Child Comes into the World" have stimulated the long-tail effect with the popularity accumulated by their good reputation, causing major theaters to extend their release dates and push up box office revenue.

Rao Shuguang, director of the Film Art Center of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and president of the Chinese Film Critics Society, said that we must continue to adhere to the core socialist values ​​to guide film criticism and evaluation, combine market performance, audience reputation and professional evaluation, and launch more sophisticated film and television works to meet the diverse needs of the general audience and promote the sustainable prosperity and development of Chinese films.
