Star Wars 9 deleted the kissing scene in Singapore, but it was retained in China

According to Deadline, the last lesbian kissing scene in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was edited and deleted in Singapore because homosexuality is illegal in Singapore and gay marriage is not recognized. In Singapore, the film is rated PG-13, and a spokesperson for the local media authority said that the scene was deleted in order to comply with the local PG-13 rating.

This gay scene in "Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker" is the first same-sex kiss in the history of "Star Wars" movies. According to Deadline, the female kissing scene in "Star Wars 9" was not edited or modified when it was released in China.

Similar cuts have been made to recent films depicting homosexuality in many global releases. Rocketman, a biopic of music legend Elton John, was banned in Samoa for clashing with its "culture and Christian beliefs," and scenes involving homosexuality and drug use were edited when it was released in Russia because of federal law against propaganda against homosexuality.

Similar edits were made to the film Bohemian Rhapsody, which was released in some countries, regarding scenes in the life of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury (including a scene of a man kissing his manager).
