"The Witcher" was finally aired last Friday. In the eight episodes of the first season, Geralt, played by Henry Cavill, faced a series of terrifying and powerful enemies, from insect monsters to terrifying witches, but Henry Cavill seemed to encounter "more docile enemies" throughout the filming process: Geralt wore "leather pants" throughout the show. During a press tour for the TV series The Witcher, Henry Cavill spoke about his struggles with the leather pants and the problems the garment caused for the costume department. "We did have some issues with the leather pants," Henry Cavill said during a press tour in Manila. "It wasn't about taking the pants off or putting them back on. The problem was that the leather would stretch because of the jumps that Geralt was doing, and the pants ended up not looking that flattering after a while. The crew had to redesign the pants from the ground up to make them more suitable for the kind of exercise that Geralt was doing on a daily basis." It turns out that, due to Henry Cavill’s insistence on not using a stunt double, many scenes require Cavill to wield a sword while maintaining his balance on terrain that could be soaked by rain or otherwise affected by the elements in these areas. It’s easy to imagine that performing these fight scenes in leather pants might have been a bit difficult! Netflix's The Witcher has been renewed for season 2 and will begin filming on February 17, 2020. |
