Netflix's The Witcher TV series leans more towards horror than fantasy

Julian Parry, visual effects supervisor for Netflix's "The Witcher" TV series, said in an interview with SFX magazine that "The Witcher" TV series is more inclined towards "grounded horror" and less fantasy.

"I think it's leaning more towards horror, and we're taking away the fantasy," Parry told SFX. "To be honest, the show isn't a fantasy show. I mean there are fantasy elements, but in a more grounded horror style. For example, Striga [a woman cursed to live in monster form] is a very twisted thing that's very unpleasant to look at."

Those who like to see armies fighting with swords and shields may also be disappointed. Parry explained: "We have the Nilfgaardian army, but it won't actually appear in the TV series because there are more than 10,000 of them. The same goes for the Temerians and the Cintran people. The army can't exist on the set."

The Witcher TV series is scheduled to be broadcast on Netflix on December 20, with a total of 8 episodes in the first season. Previously, producer Hissrich said that she had prepared 7 seasons of story content for the Witcher TV series.
