The domestic market cannot save Ang Lee's "Gemini Killer" and may face a loss of 75 million US dollars

According to Hollywoodreporter insiders and box office analysts, in the first weekend of its premiere in the United States, Gemini Man, directed by Ang Lee and starring Spavor, was overshadowed by Joker and earned 20.5 million at the box office, far below expectations. As of Sunday, the global box office was only 118.7 million US dollars. The release in China did not save the decline, and only contributed 21 million US dollars to the domestic box office over the weekend. Therefore, Ang Lee's new film is now facing a loss of 75 million US dollars or even higher.

Before the release of Gemini Man, Ang Lee's groundbreaking de-aging technology and the first practical use of high-frame-rate 3D shooting did attract the attention of the global media, and Will Smith, a powerful action star, also ensured that his overall acting skills would not be low. However, after the media rating ban was lifted, Gemini Man was still widely criticized. Critics believed that although the film's technical strength and action effects were worthy of recognition, its plot was really uninteresting.

According to statistics, the filming cost of Gemini Man is about 140 million US dollars, excluding about 100 million US dollars spent on marketing and publicity. All costs are basically borne by Paramount, Skydance, Fosun International Group and Alibaba, and Paramount's losses will be minimized after recovering the distribution costs.
