Cancer and Thunder? Thor's girlfriend's breast cancer story may be introduced in Thor 4

A while ago, the news that Natalie Portman would return to Thor 4 and become the "female Thor" excited many Marvel fans. Now, director Taika Waititi revealed another explosive news in an interview with Variety: the plot of Jane Foster suffering from breast cancer in the comics may be introduced into the movie Thor 4.

In the comics, Thor was deprived of the ability to lift Thor's hammer, and his girlfriend Jane Foster was diagnosed with breast cancer. During this period, a woman appeared, lifted Thor's hammer, and became the "female Thor". Later comic plots revealed that this "female Thor" was Jane Foster, who was ill. Becoming the "female Thor" could temporarily cure her cancer, but it would also cause great harm to her human body.

Director Taika Waititi said: "I think this is a very powerful part of the comics. She has to fight cancer and the villain at the same time, which is cool. I really like this setting...but it has not been determined whether it will be included in the plot of the movie."

At the previous San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced its Phase 4 film plan, with "Thor 4" becoming one of the blockbuster projects. It was also officially announced that Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, will return and become the "female Thor", but the director also said, "This will still be a movie about Thor, and Chris Hemsworth is still the first protagonist." But from the film's title "Thor 4: Love and Thunder" (Tentative translation), it is not difficult to see that the emotional drama between the two is not small.

"Thor 4" is scheduled to begin production in New South Wales in March next year, and will officially start shooting at Fox Studios in Sydney (now owned by Disney) in August, and will be released in North America on November 5, 2021.
