BBC to make a documentary about Chinese tea culture titled "A Cup of Tea, a Thousand Family Affairs"

According to Deadline, the BBC will create a documentary series about China's "tea culture" for the mobile video platform "Migu Video", called "One Cup, A Thousand Stories" (tentative translation), with a total of 6 episodes. This drama is the first Chinese-owned documentary series produced by the BBC studio.

"A Cup of Tea, a Thousand Family Affairs" will tell the story of "tea" and its impact on China and other civilizations in the world. This drama will look at Chinese tea culture in an unprecedented way, taking the audience to appreciate the beautiful and diverse scenery of China, and exploring the various types of tea in China in detail, thus telling the story of the people who create their lives with tea and the culture created by tea.

It will reveal how tea has influenced Chinese lifestyles and rituals, including food and concepts of medicine and health, and how tea is central to Chinese traditions, attitudes, friendships and family relationships, including how tea brings together generations of a family and even China as a whole. The series will also explore the impact of tea on other countries and China's role in global tea culture.

BBC Studios has long collaborated with the Chinese broadcaster on natural history documentary series such as Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Dynasty, but A Cup of Tea, A Thousand Family Affairs is the first documentary series produced by the BBC solely from China, produced and led by the BBC Studios team. BBC Studios has expanded its presence in China and is working closely with Kelvin Yau, senior vice president and general manager of BBC Studios Greater China, to explore opportunities. The series will be produced by BBC Studios in Scotland.
