In the latest episode of Netflix's food show "The Chef Show", Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, the Russo brothers and others all appeared on the show. While eating delicious food, everyone discussed Holland's first audition to play Batman. As the group sat around the table eating oysters, Kevin Feige asked Holland how long it took from the time he received the notice to play Spider-Man to the time he actually stood in front of the camera and started filming. Holland recalled, "About four days." "My first audition was with you (Robert Downey Jr.), and the second was with Chris Evans. Then it was about a month later, and then I got the call." Joe Russo mentioned that Holland can do somersaults in real life, and in one audition, he did somersaults on a mat himself. Jon Favreau added, "We shot a scene where the script for Spider-Man: Homecoming had him somersaulting from the bed to the door, and I saw that they were going to use CG to do somersaults. But I went into the hotel room and saw scaffolding and wires, and he was doing somersaults in every shot. And he landed every time he flipped." Holland confirmed that he did shoot many action scenes himself when he was playing Spider-Man. He said that he would not use a stuntman just because he was wearing a mask. Joe Russo asked what his first scene with Robert Downey Jr. meant to him. Holland said, "It scared me. It was terrible." He then added, "It was actually quite interesting. The dialogue was different from what I had auditioned for, and I remember you (Robert Downey Jr.) said you wanted to go back to the audition version." Robert Downey Jr. joked, "That has to be the first time I've ever said anything like that." Kevin Feige added, "That's what was so great about Tom's audition with Robert - because he was able to improvise with him and follow his performance. It was a lot of fun improvising together." |
