Lucasfilm president is teaming up with three directors to produce a new Star Wars film series

Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker is only the end of the Skywalker family legend, but it is not the end of the entire Star Wars brand. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is planning to shoot a new Star Wars legend with three directors David Benioff, DB Weiss and Rian Johnson, which will gradually unfold over the next decade.

“This movie is the conclusion of the Skywalker saga, but it’s not the end of Star Wars,” Kennedy said. “I’m in discussions with Dan Weiss, David Benioff and Rian Johnson. We sat down and talked about where to go next. We talked about various possibilities, but now we’re about to lock in a goal.”

According to reports, the Star Wars development plan they discussed includes at least the next ten years. "We are thinking about the next legendary story. We are not only thinking about the new trilogy, but also looking forward to the next ten years and even longer."

This is good news for fans, because Star Wars after The Rise of Skywalker will move away from familiar characters. This is just like the only unanimously praised movie in recent years is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Fans are looking forward to different styles of characters and stories in the same universe. It seems that Lucasfilm will also follow Marvel's approach, look at the big picture, and plan ten years of film projects in advance.

This also means there could be a closer connection between the Benioff/Weiss movie and Johnson's spinoff trilogy, which we've heard will "explore new characters from corners of the Star Wars backstory that have never been explored," while other rumors have suggested that Benioff and Weiss, who are producers on Game of Thrones, will be filming a TV series set in the era of the Old Republic.
