The Legend of Zelda live-action movie will be serious but full of fantasy

The Legend of Zelda live-action director Wes Ball has outlined his vision for the upcoming Nintendo adaptation.

"I've been thinking for a long time about how cool a Zelda movie would be... I want to fulfill people's greatest wishes ," Ball said in the latest issue of Total Film magazine. "I know this series is important to people, and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that brings relief to people."

Later adding, " I wanted to try to create a sense of authenticity. Something that was serious and cool, but also fun and whimsical . "

The Legend of Zelda movie was announced last November, with Wes Ball helming the film, who directed the Maze Runner trilogy and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Previously, Boll told Entertainment Weekly that his vision for the film was inspired by the work of Studio Ghibli co-founder and Spirited Away director Hayao Miyazaki.

At the time, he said the Zelda movie was "a great fantasy adventure movie that's different from The Lord of the Rings and has its own identity. I've always said that I would love to see a live-action version of Miyazaki's movie. His imagination is so fantastic, and I'd love to see something like that."

The Legend of Zelda movie will be jointly invested by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, and co-produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions. Nintendo's representative director and special researcher Shigeru Miyamoto and Hollywood veteran producer and former chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment Avi Arad will serve as producers.
