Why did the reboot of Pirates of the Caribbean not cast Depp? Because he was too expensive

Rebooting the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series without Johnny Depp seems almost impossible to many people. After all, Depp has always been the selling point of this series. Rather than finding a newcomer to play Captain Jack, it would be better to find someone to play Johnny Depp... But Disney seems to be very confident about this. In fact, there is a good reason that prompts them to do this, and that is "money".

According to Forbes, without Depp, each production of a Pirates of the Caribbean movie would save $90 million in budget. In order to make the salary expenditure more valuable, the screenwriters had to focus more on Captain Jack Sparrow, which is one of the reasons why the quality of the Pirates of the Caribbean series is not as good as before.

According to The Playlist, although the global box office of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales reached $800 million, it did not meet Disney's expectations. Depp's $90 million salary plus $20 million could have been used to shoot a Deadpool 2. At the same time, $90 million could have been used to shoot three A Star is Born films and two Bohemian Rhapsody films.

Now recalling the first "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", Depp's role did not occupy a large proportion at that time, and the story lines of the young blacksmith played by Orlando Bloom and Elizabeth played by Keira Knightley were comparable. But because of the appeal of Captain Jack's role, the subsequent sequels began to focus more and more on this character.

Currently, Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are preparing the script for the reboot. Regarding this arrangement, Sean Bailey, chairman of Disney's production department, said: "We want fresh energy and vitality. I love Pirates movies, but we want to regroup, and this is the task I gave them."
