Disney Studios to Break Record with $7 Billion in Revenue in 2018

Disney, one of the movie giants, had a fruitful year in 2018. There are still three weeks to go until next year, and the total revenue of Disney movies worldwide has exceeded 7 billion US dollars. According to foreign media Variety, Disney reached this milestone on December 9. It also created the second time in history that a movie studio has an annual revenue of 7 billion US dollars. The first time? It was also Disney Pictures, which set a record of 7.6 billion US dollars in 2016.

The hottest movies in the film industry this year all come from Disney. "Avengers: Infinity War" topped the list with a box office of $2 billion, and "Black Panther" (1.35 billion) ranked second. Universal Pictures' "Jurassic Park" (1.3 billion) beat "Incredibles 2" by $60 million to take the third place, which also prevented Disney from achieving the feat of taking the top three.

The results of several other Disney movies in 2018 are:

"Ant-Man and the Wasp": global box office of 622 million, ranking sixth;

"Solo: A Star Wars Story": global box office of $392 million, ranked 18th;

"Ralph Breaks the Internet": $258 million worldwide;

"Christopher Robin": $197.4 million worldwide;

"The Nutcracker and the Four Realms": $151 million worldwide;

"A Wrinkle in Time": global box office 132 million.

Disney's film revenue mainly comes from the international market, which contributed $4.07 billion in revenue, while the domestic US market contributed $2.95 billion.

Before Christmas, there is another final film, "Mary Poppins Returns", which is about to be released. Its premiere is likely to bring in more than 65 million US dollars in revenue, breaking Disney Studios' own record in 2016.

With such a huge profit this year, Disney does not seem to be resting on its laurels in the coming 2019. The company has announced some movie trailers for next year, including remakes of The Lion King, Dumbo and Aladdin, as well as Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2. The ninth episode of Star Wars is also scheduled for the end of 2019. In addition, Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 from Marvel Studios are both money-making blockbusters. It can be expected that Disney will still lead the film industry in box office performance next year.
