A new survey conducted by HarrisX found that only 34% of American adults like to watch movies in theaters, which means that the remaining approximately two-thirds would rather wait until the movie is available on streaming platforms. “The battle between streaming services and Hollywood studios continues,” said Alli Brady, vice president of HarrisX. “While recent box office data shows there is still a loyal fan base, our research shows that two-thirds of moviegoers prefer to watch their films at home on a streaming service. While this has brought some disruption to the industry, it also means that demand for content will only increase – nearly half of consumers say they stream a movie each week, which is more than seven times the frequency of going to the cinema.” The survey also found that 30% of people watch two or more movies per week via streaming, while the same proportion of respondents said they go to the cinema "several times a year." |
