The Witcher series operator: Actively accepting fans' criticism, but some are too extreme

Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher has been criticized by fans since the first day it was announced, as many fans hope that the film and television adaptation can truly respect the original work. Just recently, due to earlier rumors that Ciri would be played by a minority actor, it even inspired players to develop a "Black Ciri" mod. Despite this, after the final list of leading actors was announced, except for some complaints about the selection of a somewhat young actor for the role of Yennefer, the response was generally very positive.

Despite this, the controversy has troubled many people, such as the show's operator Lauren Hissrich, who temporarily quit Twitter because of too much hate speech. In some recent tweet replies, she talked about these negative reviews and mentioned how to deal with these issues positively.

There were two key points in her statement: one was that she believed that "this is not all hate speech" and "real fans don't make physical threats against others based on a piece of news." She also went on to say that nothing can stop her or any fan from being excited about the series.

"Good question. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't affect me - I'm a human being! I've spent a year pouring my heart and soul into this project, so when the comments get too personal and nasty, it can be overwhelming.

But - it's important to know that not all of this is hate speech.

To those people, I let them go. We welcome their opinions, but I won't let them get in the way. I'm committed to bringing this rich, funny, dark, culturally diverse, and living fantasy world to a wider audience than I am to yelling at them on the internet.

Hang in there, have faith, and don’t let this break your heart. And remember – nothing can take the excitement of this series away from you and me.”

It is worth mentioning that the entire cast of the show’s main characters has been revealed a few days ago, including Henry Cavill as Geralt, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.

At this point, it's unclear when the series will launch, but many are speculating that it will be around 2019 or 2020. By then, hopefully the royalty conflict between CD Projekt Red and the novel's author will have been resolved.

The Witcher 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while a Netflix series adaptation is currently in development.
