It's confirmed! HBO's Watchmen adaptation will premiere in 2019

According to foreign media reports, the superhero drama "Watchmen", developed by "Lost" screenwriter Damon Lindelof, has been booked by HBO and the series will premiere in 2019.

Watchmen is a classic comic book novel written by cartoonist Alan Moore that has won the Hugo Award. It tells the social conditions during the Cold War and criticizes traditional superheroism. Zack Snyder adapted it into a movie in 2009.

It is reported that HBO's drama version of "Watchmen" will not strictly follow the original comic adaptation, but will be inspired by the original in terms of plot. The story will take place in a world where superheroes are considered illegal.

The "Watchmen" series is led by Jeremy Irons, who plays "Alfred" in the DC film universe, and co-starred by Regina King ("The Leftovers," "American Crime"), Don Johnson ("Fake Money"), Louis Gossett Jr. ("Legend"), and Tim Blake Nelson ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Klondike"), among others.
