French company to remake Train to Busan!

French film company Gaumont announced on Wednesday that it had acquired the rights to adapt the South Korean disaster film "Train to Busan" into an English version of the zombie movie that has become popular in East Asia.

Train to Busan has attracted much attention since it debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year. After its release in South Korea on July 20, it became the first movie this year to exceed 10 million viewers in South Korea, with a cumulative audience of 11.6 million and a box office of more than 80.5 million US dollars. At the same time, the film became a hit on the Chinese Internet, sparking a new wave of "zombie fever". Fox Film, Sony Pictures and Europa Films have all negotiated with South Korea's Next Entertainment World (NEW) for distribution and remake matters.

French Gaumont Films has rich production experience and has produced classic films such as "The Fifth Element", "Léon: The Professional", "Nikita", "Grace of Monaco" and "The Intouchables".

"We are very happy to work with Gaumont, an experienced film company, and hope that through this opportunity we can promote more Korean films to the world," said Kim Woo-taek, CEO of NEW.

Gaumont started negotiations with South Korea during the Cannes Film Festival. "We are looking forward to remaking an American version of Train to Busan. This is also the first time our company will shoot an English-language film in Los Angeles," said Sidonie Dumas, a representative of Gaumont.
