Pepsi vs. Coca-Cola: Sony buys rights to film "Cola Wars" for $1.5 million

According to DEADLINE, a movie about Coca-Cola and Pepsi is currently in production. Sony reportedly paid $1.5 million for a proposal called "Cola Wars," which will tell the story of Pepsi's attempt to take market share from industry giant Coca-Cola.

The film awards chronicle of the so-called "Cola Wars" of the 1980s as Coke and Pepsi battled for soda supremacy, and will include such notable history as Michael Jackson's hair catching fire while filming Pepsi and Coke's swift removal from the market after attempting to launch New Coke following backlash.

The film will be co-written by Jason Shuman, co-creator of the Apple TV+ series "Acapulco Shores", and Ben Queen, creator of "Cars 2".
