Not moved by money, the producers of "Game of Thrones" gave up the right to retain the signature of the spin-off series such as "House of the Dragon"

David Benioff and DB Weiss, who produced the TV series "Game of Thrones", could have kept their signatures on subsequent spin-off series and other works, but they did not do so.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently mentioned the issue of retaining their names on the Game of Thrones spin-off series when promoting the American version of the new series The Three-Body Problem. You know, as long as you retain your name, you can get a considerable amount of money without having to participate in any work. But the two producers were not moved by the money and flatly refused, which is why their names are not seen in the staff list of House of the Dragon.

“I don’t think there’s such a thing as free money. For us, if our name was kept, especially in a completely independent and non-involved way, it felt like the pressure that comes with that hands-off approach — whether it’s success or failure — wasn’t worth it,” Weiss said of their surprising choice.

"HBO was a little confused," Benioff added. "I remember their lawyers saying, 'But this is real money, we're just paying you.'"
