Director Christopher Nolan has confirmed that his daughter will have a cameo in Oppenheimer. In a new interview, Nolan shared the scenes and story background of her appearance. This report may contain minor spoilers. Nolan told The Daily Telegraph that her eldest daughter, Flora, will appear in Oppenheimer's (Cillian Murphy) nightmares. In one scene in the film, he dreams of an unnamed young woman's face being blown off in a nuclear explosion. According to Nolan, Flora had been visiting the film set during the week of filming. “We needed someone to do a small part of a sequence that was a little bit experimental and spontaneous,” he explained, “so it was really great to have her involved.” However, when asked about the significance of this moment, Nolan said it wasn't a conscious decision: "To be honest, I try not to analyse my intentions. But the point is, if you create the ultimate destructive force, it also destroys the people who are close to you and the people you love most. So I guess that was my way of expressing that, and for me, the strongest way of expressing it." The first reviews for Oppenheimer have been very positive, with many praising the film as thrilling and Oscar-worthy. The film will be released in theaters overseas on July 21. |
