According to Rolling Stone, Jonathan Majors, who recently played major roles in Creed 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, has been accused of "extremely abusive" behavior, three months after he was arrested by police in New York on domestic violence charges. Majors' attorneys released evidence to the media supporting his innocence, while the NYPD has reportedly identified Majors' accuser in the March incident, Grace Jabari, as a possible arrest on unspecified charges. The Rolling Stone report cites dozens of interviews and sources (all of whom requested anonymity because they fear personal and professional retaliation) to publish new allegations of abuse, including physical and emotional abuse and intimidation. According to the anonymous sources, Majors strangled an ex-girlfriend and subjected another woman to "emotional torture." Majors was allegedly involved in physical altercations and intimidation at Yale University when he was studying acting at the school, and a Yale spokesperson declined to comment on or confirm any formal complaints Rolling Stone had about Majors. Majors' attorney denied the allegations, calling the reports from anonymous sources "hearsay," and explained: "The fact that neither of the two alleged abused romantic partners would engage with Rolling Stone regarding the article makes these allegations completely false." Rolling Stone's reporting relied on accounts of the alleged abuse from people who claimed to know the women. In response to Rolling Stone, Majors' legal team provided character testimonies from six "real ex-girlfriends" to vouch for Majors' character and the falsity of the allegations. The magazine disputed these testimonies, saying they had also been in contact with the six women, three of whom said they had never consented to the publication of the testimonies. Another said the statement was "pre-written" and "not true." Last week, one of Majors' attorneys, Priya Chaudhry, shared evidence that Majors did not commit the assault and harassment charges. Chaudhry said the driver who provided ride-hailing services to Majors and Jabari on the night of the incident was prepared to testify that "Majors never raised his voice or used his hands during the argument with Jabari in the car or later on the street." Majors also presented video evidence, including police body camera footage and video from a club Jabari visited after the alleged domestic violence incident, which she said supports Majors' claim that he did not assault Jabari. In a letter to the judge in Majors' case, Chaudhry claimed that Jabari was directed by NYPD officers (who responded to Majors' 911 call after the alleged domestic violence incident) to blame Majors for his injuries. Majors has kept a low profile since his arrest in March. Since then, several film and television productions associated with Majors have distanced themselves from the actor. Majors' public relations firms, The Lede Company and Management 360, reportedly dropped their ties with him shortly after his arrest. Variety reported in April that "several victims of Majors' abuse have come forward and are cooperating with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office following Majors' arrest in March." One of them claimed to have worked on Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, in which Majors played the villain Kang the Conqueror. Majors' character will feature prominently in Marvel's next phase of television and film, including blockbuster films Avengers: Reign of Kang and Avengers: Secret Wars. It is unclear if Majors will be replaced in either film, and Marvel Studios has not commented on the matter. |
