Nolan's new film "Odyssey" will be the most expensive movie of his career

Nolan is about to direct an epic ancient Greek mythology action blockbuster "Odyssey", adapted from the epic of the same name written by the "blind poet" Homer in the 8th century BC, telling the legendary journey of Odysseus (or Odyssey, known as "Ulysses" in Roman mythology) after ten years of wandering and returning home. This movie is not only Nolan's largest and most ambitious work to date, but also his most expensive movie ever, with a budget exceeding the previous highest "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises" (US$250 million).

"Odyssey" will be filmed globally using the latest IMAX film technology, striving to bring unprecedented audio-visual shocks to the audience. The film is scheduled to be released on July 17, 2026.

Star-studded cast

The Odyssey brings together many Hollywood A-list stars to form a star-studded cast. The core leading actors currently confirmed include:

Matt Damon

Tom Holland

Robert Pattinson

Anne Hathaway

Zendaya and Lupita Nyong'o will also join the cast to play important supporting roles. Earlier, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that Charlize Theron will join this highly anticipated film and perform with a group of powerful actors.

Relive an epic adventure

The original Odyssey depicts the ten years of hardship that the Greek hero Odysseus endured in his quest to return to his hometown of Ithaca after the fall of Troy, during which time he was generally believed to have been killed in battle, while his wife Penelope and son Telemachus faced a group of unbridled suitors who were vying to marry Penelope and covet Odysseus' throne.

The story explores the eternal themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning, and the struggle of human beings against fate. The film may reproduce many iconic plots and ancient Greek mythology characters in the original work, including:

Zeus, the father of the gods

Athena, goddess of wisdom

Aeolus

Polyphemus the Cyclops

Poseidon

The Siren
