More focus on quality! Future Star Wars movies may be released every 3-4 years

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke about the future of Star Wars movies, stressing that she wants new films released in theaters from now on to be like James Bond films.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced three new live-action Star Wars movies at Star Wars Celebration in April, but Kennedy hinted that they are in no rush to finish the movies by a set date. Instead, she hopes that future movies will be more like events.

"I bring up Bond a lot," Kennedy told Empire magazine. "They're every three or four years, and there's no pressure to feel like you have to have a movie every year. I think that's really important with Star Wars. We have to event it.

It’s much better to be honest. We’re going to make these movies when they’re ready and release them when they’re ready.”

While the release window for future Star Wars movies is unknown, we do know that James Mangold is working on a Dawn of the Jedi movie, Dave Filoni's Star Wars movie is focusing on the New Republic era, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars movie is focusing on Daisy Ridley's Rey.

Kennedy explained their plan.

"What we're exploring is the evolution of the Jedi. We're going way back, and we're looking at the present, and now we're 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The First Order has fallen, the Jedi are in disarray -- there's even a question of how many Jedi exist -- and Rey is building the New Jedi Corps."
