Disney cancels National Treasure series after just one season

After just one season, the series National Treasure: Edge of History has been canceled by Disney+, meaning that fans' long-awaited cameo by Nicolas Cage in the series has also been scrapped.

According to Deadline, National Treasure: Edge of History is a sequel to the two films starring Cage in 2004 and 2007. The series stars Lisette Olivera as Jess Valenzuela, a dreamer who embarks on "the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family's mysterious past and save the lost Pan Am treasure."

While Cage didn't have a cameo, Justin Bartha's Riley Poole and Harvey Keitel's Peter Sadusky did make appearances in season one.

National Treasure: Edge of History is one of the latest Disney+ series to be canceled after only a brief run, including Big Shot, Pretty Little Liars, The Secret Society of Benedict, Diary of a Future President and Turner & Hooch.

In 2020, it was reported that Disney was making a third National Treasure movie, written by Chris Bremner, the screenwriter of Bad Boys for Life. In August 2022, Jerry Bruckheimer (a Hollywood gold medal producer) called the script "very good" and he planned to give it to Cage for approval soon.
