The first box office tracking estimates for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are out, and the superhero film's opening weekend may not match the high performance of its predecessor. According to Deadline, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to take in $130 million in the U.S. in its first three days between May 5 and 7, which is slightly lower than the $146.5 million the second film took in when it premiered in 2017, before the pandemic. Importantly, the report points out that Marvel has heavily promoted and marketed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and promotion for the third film has not yet fully started. When the promotion period begins, box office tracking may rise. The first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film in 2014 took in $94.3 million in its U.S. opening weekend. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be screened two days early on May 3 for those who participate in a marathon of all three films. It is expected that this movie will be the final work of the current generation of Guardians of the Galaxy. In the future, Marvel may replace the members if it wishes to continue the series. |
