It is reported that Sony will suspend the production of some Spider-Man movies after "Kraven the Hunter"

The anti-superhero movie "Kraven the Hunter" directed by J.C. Chendor and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Russell Crowe will be released in the United States on December 13, 2024. This is Sony's latest Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) work.

However, due to the poor response to "Doctor Vigilante: Morbius" and "Mrs. Spider: The Spiderwick Chronicles", Sony seems to have suspended the progress of the project, and no new movies have been announced yet.

According to a recent report by "TheWrap", a film agent revealed that Sony is focusing on SSU projects that are more closely related to Spider-Man. These include the fourth film in the Spider-Man series starring Tom Holland, scheduled to be released in 2026, and the highly anticipated third Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In addition, there is a TV series called "Dark Spider-Man" that is working with Nicolas Cage.

However, Sony still has some SSU-related projects in production, such as movies about characters such as El Muerto, Hypno-Hustler and Jackpot, which have not yet been determined with specific release dates or major updates announced, and the future of the already announced TV shows "Silver Sable and Black Cat" and "Spider-Man: Spider Society" is also unclear.

In this regard, foreign media "The Escapist" believes that Sony's Spider-Man Universe has been struggling to be as successful as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This dilemma may prompt Sony to reconsider its approach. One possible way out is to work more closely with Marvel Pictures, which will help integrate SSU characters into the larger MCU. This cooperation is beneficial to both parties, allowing Sony to share a share of the success of the MCU and giving Marvel Pictures the opportunity to add more Spider-Man-related characters.
