'Paddington Bear' director to star in Fred Astaire biopic Spider-Man

The biopic of famous American Golden Age actor Fred Astaire, directed by "Paddington Bear" director Paul King, has been confirmed to be starred by "Spider-Man" actor Tom Holland.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the project will focus on the relationship between Astaire and his sister Adele. Astaire started out as a vaudeville performer in the American Midwest before making his way to Broadway and London's West End in the 1920s. He later became a Hollywood star and collaborated with dancer Ginger Rogers in several films. His masterpieces include "A Ghost Story" and "How Dogs Catch Thieves".

Lee Hall, the screenwriter of the musical "Beat the Kids," will return to write the screenplay originally penned by Noah Pink. Hall previously won an Oscar for Best Screenplay for "Beat the Kids," and has since written the Elton John biopic "Rocketman" and Steven Spielberg's "War Horse."

Paul King recently finished filming Wonka, a prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that tells the origin story of factory owner Willy Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet (Dune). The two Paddington movies have grossed a combined $500 million, and a third is in the works.

Before starring in "Spider-Man", Tom Holland was a dancer and had performed in a tap dance stage play adapted from "Step Up" at London's Victoria Palace.

The Fred Astaire biopic currently has no planned release date.
