Idris Elba explains why he doesn't call himself a black actor: There is no need to be limited by skin color

In the recently published spring issue of the British magazine Esquire UK, famous British actor Idris Elba explained why he no longer calls himself a "black actor" and said that this title "limits him."

In the interview, he said that one day he suddenly realized that adding "black" in front of "actor" limited what he could do as an "actor", so he decided to do something about it even if it was just a small move.

“We have to grow up. We have to do this. The color of our skin is just the color of our skin,” he said.

He said he was probably "the first person who looks like me to do something like this." He stressed: "It's good to leave this as my legacy. So that other people, not just black kids but white kids, who grew up in the same environment as I grew up in, can see that there was a kid from Canning Town who ended up doing what I'm doing now. To believe that anything is possible."

Elba was speaking to the magazine to promote his upcoming film Luther: The Fall of the Sun, which will be released in theaters on February 24 and premiere on Netflix on March 10.
