Donald Glover to star in and produce next Spider-Man film

Donald Glover (Atlanta, Community, Childish Gambino) will star in and produce the upcoming Spider-Man film, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Unnamed sources say the writer and actor will write the screenplay with Miles Murphy.

The new movie has not yet been titled, but it is said to be centered around the villain Hypno-Hustler. This is a relatively unknown villain in the Spider-Man universe. He is an evil singer with hypnotic powers. His real name is Antoine Delson. After his first appearance in 1978, this character has never been on the stage of a major villain.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glover appreciated the character's "musical aspects" and that "he has less of a Marvel plot burden, allowing him more room for interpretation." However, there is no solid information yet on what form or tone the project might take. But Murphy's version of the character was reportedly enough to make Glover happy enough to quickly jump on board.

In fact, Glover has a long relationship with the Spider-Man universe: he voiced Miles in Ultimate Spider-Man, and he also played a small role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and it is said that the character is Miles' uncle.
