Constantine 2 director: This will be a true R-rated movie

In an interview with foreign media The Wrap, Frank Lawrence, director of the 2005 film "Constantine" (translated as "Hellblazer" in China), talked about the sequel "Constantine 2", which will be rated R this time.

Frank Lawrence revealed that the 2005 film "Constantine" was rated PG-13 in accordance with Warner Bros.' request, with some restraint in violence, blood, foul language and sex, but the ratings board ultimately gave it an R rating due to the "gray area" of adult content.

"My biggest regret is that we had an R-rated movie, but it was actually PG-13. If I wanted to make it R-rated, I would have made it an R-rated movie. I would have made it scarier, more violent. So the idea this time was to really make an R-rated Constantine."

Frank Lawrence also added: "I think Constantine is an interesting character, a bit of a dark comedic style, and I would definitely like to add more satire and wry humor to the story."

Frank Lawrence revealed that there is no script for the movie "Constantine 2" yet, but the story line of the movie has been discussed many times.

"We have ideas, Keanu and I have been talking about it for a while, we've always wanted to do it. It's just that we finally got over the hurdle and now we can go ahead and actually do it. Now we have to roll up our sleeves and dive in. But we have a lot of ideas."

Frank Lawrence's most recent film is Slumberland, which will be available on Netflix on November 18.
