Despite the ongoing debate surrounding Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) voicing Mario, the first trailer for Super Mario: The Movie has received overwhelmingly positive reviews on YouTube. The trailer was released last week and features two parts, with the latter part, "Mario's first arrival in the Mushroom Kingdom," generating the most discussion. While the voiceover for Mario by Star-Lord has divided opinion, YouTube data shows that the trailer has received far more likes than dislikes. Foreign media VGC analyzed trailer data from five different YouTube channels (Illumination, Nintendo of America, Universal Pictures UK, Universal Pictures Australia, and Movie Trailers Source). Among these sources, the trailer has received more than 23 million views in the past week, and more than 800,000 viewers have expressed their opinions, with a total of 774,447 likes across the five channels and a total of 37,075 dislikes. This means that the current response to the video, based on likes and dislikes, is 95.4%. Illumination and Nintendo are not using Mario's classic voice actor Charles Martinet in the film, but he will appear in the film in a cameo role and his name is also mentioned in the trailer. "Super Mario: The Movie" will be released in North America on April 7, 2023. |
