Quentin Tarantino says he loves Top Gun 2 and has discussed it with Tom Cruise

Recently, on the ReelBlend podcast of the film and television media CinemaBlend, the famous director Quentin Tarantino, who was invited as a guest, talked about the experience of watching "Top Gun 2: Maverick", which won high box office after its release this year.

"Normally I don't talk about new movies very often because I'm forced to say only nice things, but in this case, I just loved Top Gun: Maverick. I thought it was fantastic," Tarantino said.

"I saw it in the theater. This movie, as our mutual friend Bret Easton Ellis said, is a true cinematic spectacle on par with Spielberg's West Side Story, the likes of which I almost thought we would never see again. It was amazing."

According to director Quentin, one thing that made him hesitate before watching the sequel was that this Top Gun sequel was not directed by Tony Scott. Quentin said that he and Tom Cruise had discussed this matter.

"Not really, because he would have been great if he'd done it. But I did ask him, I asked, 'How are you going to do Top Gun without Tony Scott?' And he said, 'I know. Yes I do. You're right. That's why I said no for years, but we found a way. We found a good story.'"

Tarantino later explained, "There are a lot of things in the movie that I really, really liked, because I really love Tony Scott's movies, and I love Tony so much that Top Gun 2 was like the next movie we could see from him."

"[Top Gun 2 director Joseph Kosinski] did a great job. The respect and affection for Tony was in every frame. It was in almost every decision, and it was conscious, but respectful in a really cool way. I think that was true of every decision Tom made on this movie."

Tarantino reiterated: "This is the closest thing to a Tony Scott movie we're going to get, and it's a really great movie."
