The film focuses on the famous Dahomey Kingdom in the 18th and 19th centuries in African history, which had an all-female army called the "Dahomey Beauty Warriors", also known as the "Dahomey Amazons". In modern comics, the Amazon tribe of Wonder Woman and the Dora Milaje, the female guard of Black Panther, all have the shadow of the Dahomey Beauty Warriors.

The Queen is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and will be released in North America on September 16. The protagonist is General Nanisca, played by Davis, and tells the story of her teaming up with new recruit Nawi and others to defend the country from the enemy.
