Warner Bros. to team up with JJ Abrams for live-action Hot Wheels movie

Today (April 26), Warner Bros. and Mattel Pictures announced that JJ Abrams' Bad Robot Productions has signed on to produce a live-action Hot Wheels feature film, which is described in the announcement as showcasing "some of the hottest and most stylish cars, monster trucks and motorcycles in the world." Speaking of the collaboration, Mattel Pictures executive producer Robbie Brenner didn't offer any plot details, but hinted that the new project is aimed at the huge Hot Wheels fan base.

“As a global leader in car culture, Hot Wheels has been inspiring the adventurous spirit of car enthusiasts for generations,” said Brenner. “Fans of all ages will now join J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Pictures in an exciting story that will transform Hot Wheels’ legendary IP to the big screen.”

While Mattel's other upcoming live-action adaptation of its toy line, Barbie, has revealed several star casts and characters to attract audiences, few details have been released about the Hot Wheels movie, except that it will be based on "cars that can be moved by thoughts."
