According to Netflix, Tom Holland's Uncharted, a film adaptation of the PlayStation video game series, will hit the streaming platform for U.S. audiences on July 15. While obviously a lot of people have already seen the film, which reportedly made more than $400 million during its theatrical run, this will be its first time on a streaming platform. Uncharted is coming to Netflix thanks to a deal Sony Pictures made with the streaming service last year. After Disney, NBCUniversal, and Warner Bros. all announced that the movies and TV series they produce will be available on their platforms, Sony will be one of the major studios that agreed to move many of its movies to the platform after their theatrical release. The deal also includes Doctor Morbius, a movie that flopped at the box office as memes returned to theaters, but once again, it failed. Despite the impending arrival of Uncharted based on the deal, Netflix will not be the exclusive platform for upcoming movies and shows based on PlayStation games. While Sony is working with Netflix on a Horizon Zero Dawn TV series, the Chariots of Fire adaptation will stream on Peacock, and The Last of Us will come to HBO. |
